Eleana Gordon

Eleana Gordon has been working since 2003 to support pro-democracy activists in the Middle East and develop educational programs on democracy in Arabic. She was the editor-in-chief of the "Iraq Democracy Papers," a series of collected writings in Arabic, and has worked particularly with Iraqi women leaders to secure basic rights.
She helped organize the Heartland of Iraq Women's Conference (Hilla, October 2003), the Iraqi Women's Leadership Conference (Jordan, April 2005), and a civics education program in nine Iraqi universities as part of the Ahad al-Iraq campaign, working in partnership with Iraqi NGOs such as the American Islamic Congress, Friends of Democracy and the Iraq Foundation. More recently, she has established a democracy leadership training program in partnership with the Tharwa Institute, led by the Syrian activist Ammar Abdulhamid; and set up training programs for women in politics in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait and Morocco.
Eleana's diverse career includes ten years in business strategy and private equity finance with firms such as McKinsey & Co. and General Atlantic Partners. She has a Masters degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.
