Hi, I’m Kathleen Schafer, and welcome to Political Leadership. I am delighted to be going on this journey with such a dynamic group of women from the Middle East. Leadership is the most important thing that we can engage in when we’re studying about how to create change in our world and I’m delighted that you have taken the opportunity and have decided to think about how you can be most effective in creating the change that you would like to see in this world.
The journey for leaders begins by looking inside of ourselves, and that’s where this course begins, in taking a look at who you are as a person. What are your talents? What are your strengths? What are the skills that you bring to the table? And do you understand and recognize what you have to contribute? You will also learn to identify the talents and skills that others bring, so that as we put teams and groups together we can create change in the most effective way possible.
In this course we will spend the first third of the time working on identifying those talents and strengths that you have and learning how to put them to use in the world. The next part of the course explores what do you want to do, what is your passion, and what is the change that you’d like to create in the world. In other words, what is it that you feel that you can do, right here, and right now, to make change in your life and the lives of the people around you and in your community? Because once we can identify that change, then we have an idea about where to get started and how to accomplish our goal.
Next, we will take a look at how we put that plan together, those action steps that get you from where you are today to where you want to go. And finally, we will look at and explore other leaders and their talents and strengths and see how they have been able to create change and the lessons that we can learn from them. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to explore who you are and to figure out how you can create the biggest impact and change in your community.
I’m delighted to go on this journey with you and I look forward to working with you in political leadership. Thank you.
