Khairi Abaza

Co-Founder of the OAI and Mentor - Assess Your Political Environment


Khairi Abaza is a co-founder and instructor of the Online Activism Institute. In addition to serving as a Civic Environment mentor for the OAI, he is a senior advisor at the Center for Liberty in the Middle East (CLIME). Khairi focuses on democratic reform in the Arab world, the spread of terrorism, and the influence of the media on politics.  He often speaks at universities to discuss issues related to democratization and reform in the Middle East.


Before joining CLIME, Abaza was a visiting fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, focusing on Egyptian politics and democratic reform. While at the Washington Institute, he published a series of articles covering elections and other developments in Egypt. He has also served as a member of the Foreign Affairs and Cultural Committees of the Egyptian Wafd Party.

Khairi holds a master's degree in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of London, where he is currently pursuing a doctorate in politics. He has lived in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe and speaks Arabic (Egyptian and Moroccan), English, and French.
